LISTEN TO THE AIR
by Alan Silken
What is it I need to know
we’re cautioned to keep our distance
This I cannot do
I hide myself before you
A free verse of music
and you dance me in your mind
There is no limit
where thoughts might lead
In a parallel world
where no colors spill
All radiant in the
chambers of your eye
This I say in vibrant words
listen, listen to the air
That quivers in
your bones
And this I see in stone
that sets a sacred place
And this I pray with hands
deep in my pockets
Apart, unclasped, waiting
to be held by you.
