The Racial Justice Initiative is very honored to be welcoming Dr. Althea Smith, Chair of the Board of Directors, and Ms. Deborah Collins-Gousby, Chief Operating Officer of Brookview House in Dorchester, and Ari Barbanell, Executive Director of The Winter Walk for a discussion of homelessness in Boston and Massachusetts and what we can do about it. Founded in 1990, Brookview is a Black- and Latinx women-led organization that works for justice, equity and systemic change for low-income mothers and children in Boston, many with histories of domestic violence. Their mission is to help these families develop the skills necessary to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Through a two-generation, culturally responsive approach, Brookview provides housing and a broad roange of supportive programs to improve educational achievement, health and well being and economic independence! Ms. Barbanell has been Executive Director of the Winter Walk for five years and is a thought leader in topic of homelessness, its causes and remedies.
