- Program Leader: Stanley Berman, Ph.D. & Noni Stearns, MSW
A major illness diagnosis can have a profound impact on both the patient and the entire family. In fact, illness is always a family event. The family needs to change and to adapt to the reality of the illness in terms of medical care and treatment and in terms of psychological adjustment. The presenters will explore coping approaches for the family.
Presenters:
Stanley Berman, Ph.D. is child and a health psychologist. He is a professor of Clinical Psychology at William James College and maintains a private practice in Concord, MA. Earlier in his career, he was a staff psychologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and at the Jimmy Fund Clinic of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute
Noni Stearns, MSW is a retired oncology social worker whose primary focus was on adult patients and their families. A former Director of Social Work at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, she is founding member and Fellow of the Association of Oncology Social Workers.
