About Cam
I am so excited to become a Bar Mitzvah and a leader in our community. I am Cameron Friedman. I am 13 years old and am a seventh grader at Oak Hill Middle School. One thing that I love and is really special to me is Crane Lake Camp, where I spend my summers with my best friends and my brothers, playing sports, hanging out, and being Jewish together. It’s a really special place where I have definitely grown in every way.
I live with my parents in Newton. I have an older brother in college, and another on his way to college. I have a labradoodle named Rosie. I love playing sports, and I also really like history and international politics. History has also taught me about my Jewish history and our story as a culture and people. I am also pretty into wars and the military. I definitely want to travel more and see some more of the world.
My bar mitzvah has helped me feel a connection to my culture, history, and greater community. I am embracing my religion just as my family has before me. I am learning about values and leadership and giving and being connected to family, friends, and to the world. I have helped out with Newton Athletes Unlimited and Family Table, and other such opportunities. But what I am realizing is that leadership and giving isn’t just something you do for your bar mitzvah. It’s a mindset, a lifestyle. It becomes a part of who you are and how you act and think and live in the world. It’s lifelong. I want to always be part of making this world a better place.
