Hip Hop is a uniquely American art form created by young African-Americans living in the Bronx in the 1970s. With turntables, microphones, and crates of disco records the pioneers of Hip Hop lifted up the lived realities of disenfranchised youth communities and paved the way for what is now the most popular music genre in American music. Join Rabbi Ben as we explore the small, but meaningful ways that Jewish artists have contributed to the rise and continued success of this oft-misunderstood genre. Learn the story of a Jewish boy from Long Island who became the world’s most successful producer of Hip Hop and explore how a former Jewish day-school student turned rapper has continued to dominate the music industry for over a decade.
Please note, in an effort to maintain the integrity of our exploration, songs will be presented uncensored. Please be advised that songs will feature adult language and themes.
