Racial Justice Initiative Quarterly Meeting (Hybrid)

A Conversation on What’s Happening in America Now and Its Impact on the Black and Jewish Communities

If you’re joining us in person, please come at 6:30 pm to have dessert with us in the sukkah!

After RJI’s celebratory June meeting, bad news seemed to keep coming in regarding racial justice—from the Supreme Court decision striking down affirmative action to multiple attacks on voting rights, and notable little progress on housing justice.  It seems the perfect time to take a look at the bigger picture and take stock.

The perfect person to help us do so is senior statesman Attorney Joseph D. Feaster, Jr. and he has agreed to join us for a stimulating Fireside Chat and audience conversation that illuminates potential ramifications of the recent Supreme Court decision on affirmative action, public accommodation and religious freedoms as well as far-reaching topics of voting rights, reparations, housing justice, challenges for returning  citizens and Black-Jewish relations.

During Mr. Feaster’s 47 year legal career he has developed expertise in numerous areas of the law, including corporate, employment and labor, real estate, contract, licensing and zoning, and probate.  He is currently of Counsel at the law firm, Dain, Torphy Le Ray Wiest & Gardner P.C., chair of the board of directors of the Urban League of Eastern MA and an Executive Committee member of the MA Association for Mental Health. Other volunteer appointments include serving as chair of Boston’s Reparations Task Force and a member of the Boston’s Executive Order of Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.  Former positions include Mayor Walsh’s appointment  to the Boston Police Department Reform Task Force, co-chair Boston Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and co-chair (with Lenny Zakim) of Greater Boston Civil Rights Coalition.
