Mikveh Immersion as a Spiritual Practice
Join us this Elul season for a special collaborative series with Mayyim Hayyim, Living Waters Community Mikveh, in Newton, MA. In this three part workshop, participants will learn with both Mayyim Hayyim educators and TBE clergy about the power of mikveh as a transformative ritual. It is a longtime Jewish tradition for Jews to immerse in the mikveh, the ritual bath. The waters of the mikveh symbolically purify – they are seen as waters of rebirth. For this reason, many immerse before the High Holidays. During this workshop, learners will have a chance to learn about the meaning of mikvah and tour Mayyim Hayyim, craft their own immersion rituals with guidance from our TBE clergy, and finally to immerse either symbolically through a hand washing ceremony or fully in the living waters at Mayyim Hayyim. Class space is limited, please register as soon as possible! This is a three-part series; participants should attend all sessions.
Dates and times: August 30, 7:00-8:30 pm (at Mayyim Hayyim), September 6, 7:00-8:30 pm (at TBE), September 13, 6:00-9:00 pm (at Mayyim Hayyim, with option to immerse)
Cost: $75 per person due at May Mayyim Hayyim on August 30.
