Reproductive Justice Art Exhibit and Discussion on Black Maternal Health (In Person)

Deeply Rooted: Faith in Reproductive Justice is an ambitious, multidisciplinary exhibition that looks at abortion and reproductive justice through the lens of faith, bringing Jewish feminist artists into dialogue with artists from other faith communities and backgrounds. A response to the Dobbs v. Jackson women’s health narrow majority opinion of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the exhibit features 18 national and international artists whose art reflects different backgrounds, religious and cultural views on reproduction and abortion.

Following a special tour with curator/artist Caron Tabb, there will be a discussion with Lilly Marcelin, founder and Executive Director of the Resilient Sisterhood Project (RSP). Founded in 2012, RSP educates and empowers women of African descent regarding common yet rarely discussed diseases of the reproductive system that disproportionately affects them. As documented in the July MA Department of Public Health report, severe maternal morbidity increased significantly over the past decade, but terrifyingly more so for Black birthing people whose mortality rate is now 2.5 times higher than that of white birthing people.
