We are so excited to welcome our new Rabbis into the Temple Beth Elohim Community! Read their statements to the community below.
Rabbi Jordy Callman
Shalom TBE! I am so thrilled to be joining you this summer as part of your incredible clergy team. I was born and raised in the Boston suburbs and cannot wait to come home.
After my ordination at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, I began my rabbinate at Temple Sinai in Denver Colorado. My time in Denver was filled with meaningful opportunities to engage with the community, connecting through prayer, learning, food and the shared experiences that the pandemic brought us.
For many years, I have looked to TBE as one of the models for what synagogue life can be and perhaps even should be. I am energized by the opportunity to work in sacred partnership with clergy, staff, lay leadership and the whole congregational community as we think outside the box about Jewish life in our time while serving our people with the same warmth and integrity that is so core to who we are. One of the first things I cannot wait to do is meet all of you! I look forward to going for coffee, taking walks in the neighborhood and meeting in the building as an opportunity to get to know you and begin building relationships.
My husband Matthew and I were married in TBE’s sanctuary and we are so excited for our son Matan to continue his Jewish journey down the hallway at Gan Elohim. As we (including our 60lb rescue dog Rosie) prepare to move across the country and settle in Watertown, we are filled with gratitude and feeling blessed to be joining such a vibrant and intentional community. We cannot wait for what is to come!
Rabbi Ben Rosen
Shalom! I’m Rabbi Ben Rosen and I’m thrilled to be joining the TBE clergy team this July as Assistant Rabbi. Recently, I was ordained as a Rabbi in my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio on the bimah of Plum Street Temple – the very same bimah where I was consecrated, called to the Torah as Bar Mitzvah, confirmed, and even married! After attending The Ohio State University, where I received a degree in Political Science, I remained in Columbus to work in communications for a local synagogue. It was through the mentorship of that community that I found my path to study at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
After spending a meaningful year of study in Jerusalem, I returned home to Cincinnati to complete rabbinical school. During the ensuing years, I had the honor and pleasure to serve a wide-variety of Jewish communities – from student pulpits in Louisiana and Missouri to senior living facilities and hospitals. My passion for the sacred work of Jewish community building only grew during my time on the historic Cincinnati campus, as I dove deeply into my studies of Jewish history, text, worship, and pastoral care. It is through these years of work and study that I have come to understand what charges my soul – the building and nurturing of relationships. I firmly believe that it is the connections between each other that form the sacred foundation for all aspects of Jewish life and it is this attitude that will energize my work at TBE.
My wife, Tess, and I have recently found a place in Natick and are so excited to begin to discover all that Greater Boston has to offer. We cannot wait to begin meeting the TBE community, in earnest, when we join you all this summer!
