Shabbat Shirah, when we celebrate the Israelites’ successful crossing of the Red Sea, fortuitously fell on the same weekend that TBE commemorated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rabbis Sherman & Saphire and Cantor Zell marked the occasion, as did congregant Ediss Gandelman (co-chair of TBE’s Racial Justice Initiative) in a D’var Torah.

“It was a leap of faith that the Israelites entered the as-yet unparted the Red Sea, just as it was Martin Luther King’s faith that was the foundation of his marches for freedom,” said Racial Justice Initiative Co-chair Ediss Gandelman as part of her D’var Torah.
